We are a unique Destination Garden Center located in a beautiful, rural setting on eight acres, just south of Altamont, Illinois.

We established our gardens in 1988 and have evolved into one of the largest suppliers of new and unique plant material available for Midwestern gardening enthusiasts. Our sales area is over 5 acres and easily accessible to shop for all your gardening and landscape needs.

Our garden center carries hundreds of  different varieties of the best annuals,  perennials, trees,  shrubs, succulents, tropicals and houseplants.  We grow to finish all of our flowering annuals, vegetables, herbs and perennial plants to provide the best care throughout various stages of growth until maturity. We offer the best in plant brands such as Ball Floraplant, Sunpatiens, Wave, and Proven Winners. Every one of our fantastic hanging baskets is designed and grown in our greenhouses; from our greenhouse to your garden.  As a "Certified Proven Winner Garden Center", we have the best in annuals, perennials, and shrubs the brand has to offer.  We also carry the shrub and rose selections that include: Southern Living, Plants that Work, Bloomin’ Easy, Knockout, Drift and  True Rose. 

You can find  pottery, iron plant stands and trellises, water fountains, windchimes, bird feeders,  windsocks and spinners in our Garden Shop to help you create outdoor living spaces as well as enhance your landscape. If you're needing water garden supplies. We've got  that covered too! From additives to keep your pond clean to fish food,  plus a great selection of water plants. 

In our Garden Shop we carry products to help solve your most common garden problems from fertilizing your houseplant to amending your soil. We carry Bayer,  Ferti-lome and Bonide products.  We carry a huge line of Organic Espoma products.  We also offer bagged mulches, soil amendments and potting soils such as Fox Farms.  We offer mulches, soil amendments and landscape rock in bulk.

The main attraction is our display gardens. Over 5 acres of perennial beds, trees and shrubs, vine arbors, shade gardens, rock gardens, ornamental grasses, and a water garden will inspire you to create your own ideal landscape. Our gardens are filled with the same plant material that we offer our customers and it changes often with the addition of new plants, garden art, and designs. Our gardens are true test gardens, we do not irrigate, so all of our plant material must be tough and able to survive anything Mother Nature throws at us.

We have an experienced, knowledgeable, courteous, and helpful staff that is excited to share their passion and make your experience at Alwerdt’s the best we can offer. Our team is always ready to help you with your decisions and can assist you while shopping. We truly are "a place to learn", and we focus on educating the customer. Our talented landscape team is very professional and reliable.

There is so much to see here and our gardens are always changing with the seasons, so please feel free to visit us many times to develop ideas. We are very easy to find: located 1 mile south of Interstate 70, Exit 82 at Altamont, and then one-eighth of a mile east on E. 800th Avenue.
